  8. INTRODUCTION

  10.         Reality Software is a small company whose husband and wife 
  11. team is devoted to the publication of two product lines.
  12.  
  13.        We publish quality E-Books for DOS and Windows in 
  14. ancient/medieval history and the history of religion. These books 
  15. represent original, scholarly research and are designed for 
  16. thinking adults. They are an attempt at original synthesis from the 
  17. literature and some of the writing is at journal level. They are 
  18. definitely not school-oriented software nor New Age fluff.

  20.       Reality Software also publishes a large series of Windows 
  21. image collections/media albums and screen savers that feature a) 
  22. archival, royalty free, historical photography and b) original 
  23. computer art whose themes are mythic and visionary.

  25.        All Windows E-Books come with Replica, an application 
  26. independent viewing system that bypasses the need for a word 
  27. processor. Replica is easily installed into WIN 3.1 or WFW 3.11 
  28. and can then be used to view and print the electronic books. Full 
  29. instructions are included and the software is very user friendly.

  40.         Seven publications in our series of Windows screen savers 
  41. featuring archival transportation photography have been released. 
  42. Two volumes feature images scanned from our private collection 
  43. of 19th century locomotives. The other publications feature images 
  44. of tall ships, classic sail boats, early bicycles and early
  45. trolleys. The photos are quite rare and in most cases are single 
  46. prints made by early photographers and collectors. With a handful 
  47. of exceptions, none have ever been published before in any medium 
  48. and then only many decades ago at very low resolution. Each photo 
  49. has been meticulously restored to repair negative and print damages 
  50. while maintaining the historical integrity of the image. Each 
  51. graphics files in v1.0 of these publications is 8 bit, 256 grey 
  52. scale, TIF and royalty free. Each graphics file in v1.2 of these
  53. publications is 24 bit and royalty free to registered users.

  55.         Four volumes in our Windows screen saver series of original 
  56. visionary art have been released. 1) Fifteen original computer 
  57. paintings explore the theme of Mythic Bears. 2) Fifteen original 
  58. computer paintings explore the Epiphanies of the Neolithic 
  59. Goddess.  3) Fifteen original computer paintings developed with 
  60. fractals express images of Cosmic Creation. 4) Fifteen original 
  61. computer paintings explore relationships with Sacred Animals.       
  62. The shareware versions of each screen saver contain four 
  63. images, the registered versions fifteen. There is no duplication 
  64. among the collections and each graphics file in version 1.0 of
  65. these publications is 8 bit, 256 color and PCX.  Each graphics
  66. file in v1.2 of these publications is 24 bit, 16 million color,
  67. and royalty free to registered users. At a cost of $1 or less per 
  68. image, such a license is a bargain. Stock photography agencies 
  69. typically charge $100 or more per image for commercial licenses.

  71.         Interactive Week for Feb.13, 1995 (Vol.2(3): 29) has a report 
  72. about Bill Gate's latest venture. Having dominated the OS and 
  73. software worlds through MicroSoft, Gate's has set his sights upon 
  74. a new on-line service (to be bundled with Windows 95) and, of 
  75. immediate concern to the graphics design and multimedia 
  76. industries, a major expansion of his little known company called 
  77. Now Corbis. Now Corbis holds an enormous library of stock 
  78. photos with plans to triple its inventory in the near future. Corbis 
  79. intends to sell one time licenses for each image and employs five 
  80. intellectual property lawyers to write contracts with clients. I quote 
  81. Mark Daniel, manager of sales. "We have not been selling 
  82. an image for less than $100, and we also have sold an image 
  83. up to $5,000. Normally, they [one-time reproduction licenses] 
  84. are $200 to $400 an image."

  86.        Realize, that if you are a graphics designer or multimedia 
  87. developer, this is the playing field now and for the foreseeable 
  88. future. While Reality Software can only develop image collections 
  89. built around specialized themes, if you can use our products, we 
  90. offer the most inexpensive license in the industry: $1 per image for 
  91. a lifetime royalty free license. And you will not have to talk to a 
  92. lawyer. We wish to share our knowledge and creativity with you at 
  93. the lowest cost possible.

  97. often produce a nearly invisible repair of the problems caused by 
  98. such damages as water or ink stains, and rips or tears in prints or 
  99. negatives. We can also restore an appropriate contrast level and 
  100. resolution to seriously faded images. If the image does not exist 
  101. as computer media, we will scan it for you before beginning 
  102. restoration.

  119. hypotheses are presented about iconography and metaphor which
